Interna琀椀onal Choir Compe琀椀琀椀on Successfully Hosted by Mauri琀椀us
On Thursday 4 September 2025, the
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ins琀椀tute of Public
Service and Innova琀椀on in Réduit hosted
the o昀케cial launch of the mascot for the
African Asia Paci昀椀c Choir Games & Grand
Prix of Na琀椀ons 2025. The ceremony was
a琀琀ended by the Minister of Youth and
Sports, Mr Darmarajen Nagalingum.

ar琀椀s琀椀c excellence but also contribute
to strengthening the country’s cultural
visibility and economic growth.

琀椀me Mauri琀椀us hosted the compe琀椀琀椀on,

ceremony at the Côte d’Or National
Sports Complex with a large-scale ar琀椀s琀椀c
performance, followed by two celebra琀椀on
concerts at the Mahatma Gandhi Ins琀椀tute
and Côte d’Or. Addi琀椀onally, 昀椀ve friendship
concerts, a vibrant choral parade and a
closing ceremony with awards showcased
the rich cultural exchange and ar琀椀s琀椀c
talent of the par琀椀cipa琀椀ng countries.
During the event, sponsorship
agreements were signed and painting
materials and canvases were presented
to the 12 昀椀nalists of the Na琀椀onal Fresco
Competition 2025. Organized by the
Local Organising Commi琀琀ee for the Choir
Games (LOCICC) 2025, the gathering
brought together sponsors, students
and other stakeholders to celebrate the
upcoming interna琀椀onal event.
In his address, Minister Nagalingum
highlighted the signi昀椀cance of Mauri琀椀us
hos琀椀ng the African Asia Paci昀椀c Choir
Games for the 昀椀rst 琀椀me. He noted that
the event brought together choirs from
several countries along with over 40 local
groups, providing a pla琀昀orm to showcase
Mauritian talent on the international
stage. The Minister expressed con昀椀dence
that the event would elevate Mauri琀椀us’s
cultural pro昀椀le while fostering crea琀椀vity
and unity among youth through arts,
culture and sports.
He assured that every e昀昀ort had been
made, in close collaboration with the
LOCICC led by Chairman Mr Moteea,
to ensure the success of the Games.
The Minister also emphasized the
importance of nurturing hidden talents
among young people and stated that the
Mauri琀椀us Launches Na琀椀onal Conven琀椀on to Revitalize Arts and Culture
On Friday 4 September 2025, a signi昀椀cant
milestone was reached in shaping the
future of Mauritius’s arts and culture
sector, with the launch of the Conven琀椀on
Na琀椀onale sur les Arts et la Culture. The
event was held at the City Council of PortLouis and was o昀케ciated by the Minister of
Arts and Culture, Mr Mahendra Gondeea.
Joining him were the Junior Minister of
Arts and Culture, Mrs Marie Véronique
Leu-Govind and the Lord Mayor of PortLouis, Mr Aslam Adam Hosenally. The
Conven琀椀on served as a vital pla琀昀orm that
brought together ar琀椀sts, cultural operators
and stakeholders from across the country
to share ideas and collabora琀椀vely develop
a vision for the sector’s growth and
revitaliza琀椀on.
In his address, Minister Gondeea
emphasized that arts and culture are
essen琀椀al pillars of Mauri琀椀us’s iden琀椀ty
and economic development and he
highlighted the urgent need to revitalize
and elevate the sector to its rightful
prominence. He explained that this revival
should go beyond mere concerts and
exhibi琀椀ons, aiming to create employment
opportuni琀椀es, support young people in
overcoming the scourge of drugs and
enhance Mauri琀椀us’s reputa琀椀on on the
interna琀椀onal stage.

The Conven琀椀on was designed to align
the sector with the government’s vision
for a crea琀椀ve economy, set clear priori琀椀es
and foster collabora琀椀on among ar琀椀sts,
universi琀椀es, civil society and the private
sector. Minister Gondeea also announced
that the Serge Constantin Theatre in
Vacoas would reopen that evening a昀琀er
being closed for four years, marking a
signi昀椀cant step in the ongoing cultural
revitaliza琀椀on of Mauri琀椀us.
Junior Minister Leu-Govind underscored
the importance of recognizing and
reassessing the challenges faced by ar琀椀sts.
She rea昀케rmed the Ministry’s commitment
to suppor琀椀ng them and stressed that
achieving tangible results would require
con琀椀nuous, collec琀椀ve e昀昀ort. She further
emphasized the need to strengthen
ar琀椀s琀椀c and cultural educa琀椀on to ensure
that skills and knowledge are passed
down to future genera琀椀ons of ar琀椀sts.
