Les Assises du Travail et de l’Emploi: Building a Resilient Future Together
The ‘Les Assises du Travail et de l’Emploi’,
a three-day forum dedicated to fostering
social dialogue and championing workers’ rights, o昀케cially kicked o昀昀 on Tuesday 23 September 2025. Held at the Atal
Bihari Vajpayee Ins琀椀tute of Public Service and Innova琀椀on in Réduit, the event
was inaugurated in the presence of the
Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Industrial Rela琀椀ons, Mr.
Reza Uteem.
The opening ceremony was also a琀琀ended by notable 昀椀gures, including the Minister of Informa琀椀on Technology, Communica琀椀on and Innova琀椀on, Dr. Avinash
Ramtohul; the Minister of Public Service
and Administra琀椀ve Reforms, Mr. Lutchmanah Pen琀椀ah; and Mr. Frédéric Muia,
the Director of the Interna琀椀onal Labour
Organiza琀椀on (ILO) Country O昀케ce for
Madagascar, Comoros, Mauri琀椀us, and
Seychelles.
In his keynote address, Minister Uteem
emphasized that the Assises serve as a
vital pla琀昀orm to address workers’ concerns and foster open dialogue between
all stakeholders — aiming for mutually
bene昀椀cial solu琀椀ons for both employees
and employers. He highlighted pressing
issues such as the growing skills mis-
match, ongoing brain drain and the mental health of workers, which will be central themes throughout the forum.
The Minister outlined the key thema琀椀c
areas to be discussed, including Labour
Rights and Condi琀椀ons, Employability
and Migra琀椀on, Occupa琀椀onal Safety and
Health, Industrial Rela琀椀ons, Dispute Resolu琀椀on Mechanisms and Mental Health
in the Workplace. To enhance protec琀椀ons for jobseekers, he announced the
upcoming promulga琀椀on of the Private
Recruitment Agencies Regula琀椀ons 2025,
designed to modernize the regulatory
framework in line with the Interna琀椀onal
Recruitment Integrity System principles
— promo琀椀ng fair and ethical recruitment
prac琀椀ces. The recruitment of foreign labor to address workforce shortages was
also a signi昀椀cant topic addressed.
Mrs. Dameeaantee Thylamay, President
of the Congress of Independent Trade
Unions, stressed the importance of
workers adap琀椀ng and upskilling in an increasingly technological landscape. She
reiterated the unions’ dedica琀椀on to ensuring that no worker is le昀琀 behind.
Addi琀椀onally, Mr. Pradeep Dursun, Chief
Opera琀椀ng O昀케cer of Business Mauri琀椀us, underscored the need for healthy
consulta琀椀ons and sustainable solu琀椀ons
through social dialogue. He expressed
his organiza琀椀on’s con琀椀nued support for
collabora琀椀on among all social partners
to achieve a fair and balanced labor environment.
Spanning from Tuesday 23 September
23 to Thursday 25 September 2025, the
forum brings together key representa琀椀ves from government ministries, trade
unions, workers’ associa琀椀ons, and the
private sector. The event aims to foster dialogue, share best prac琀椀ces and
shape a progressive future of work that
empowers the workforce and promotes
social jus琀椀ce.
Mr. Muia, rea昀케rming the ILO’s commitment, called for collabora琀椀on, innova琀椀on
and the pursuit of decent work for all.
He emphasized the importance of building an inclusive, resilient and sustainable
future of work for Mauri琀椀us — upholding social jus琀椀ce and ensuring no one is
le昀琀 behind while safeguarding workers’
rights.
Prime Minister Ramgoolam Highlights Key Outcomes of India Visit
Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam highlighted the posi琀椀ve outcomes of his recent State visit to India,
which took place from 9 to 16 September, 2025, at the invita琀椀on of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi. The highlights
of the visit was discussed during a press
conference held in Port Louis on Saturday 20 September 2025.
Leading a high-level delega琀椀on — including ministers of Energy and Public U琀椀li琀椀es, Financial Services and Economic
Planning, Foreign A昀昀airs, Industry, SME
and Coopera琀椀ves, and Junior Minister of
Finance — Dr. Ramgoolam underscored
the strong historical, cultural, and fraternal 琀椀es between Mauri琀椀us and India. He

Avoidance Agreement, with an emphasis
on making Mauri琀椀us a primary source of
Foreign Direct Investment into India.
Progress across sectors such as energy
— highlighted by a 17.5 MW Floa琀椀ng Solar PV project at Tamarind Falls — SMEs,
ar琀椀昀椀cial intelligence, cybersecurity, and
digital transforma琀椀on was also emphasized. India will assist Mauri琀椀us with natural disaster early warning systems, and
discussions explored capital market development and 昀椀nancial services.
The Prime Minister highlighted the success of the India-Mauri琀椀us Business
Conclave, which saw the par琀椀cipa琀椀on of
200 stakeholders, including 55 from the
