Mauri琀椀us Launches Green TVET Self-Assessment Report
On Thursday 11 September 2025, the
Minister of Environment, Solid Waste
Management and Climate Change,
Mr. Rajesh Anand Bhagwan, officially
launched the Green Technical and
Voca琀椀onal Educa琀椀on and Training (TVET)
Self-Assessment Report at Voila Bagatelle
in Moka. This landmark ini琀椀a琀椀ve aims to
strengthen the TVET system in alignment
with Mauritius’s green transition and
sustainability goals.
Present at the event were the Minister
of Education and Human Resources,
Dr. Mahend Gungapersad; the Deputy
Bri琀椀sh High Commissioner, Mr. Goran
Mandic; the Director of Exams at the
British Council Mauritius, Ms. Medha
Boolauky; along with other dis琀椀nguished
personali琀椀es.

Mauri琀椀us in partnership with the Bri琀椀sh
High Commission Mauritius and the
Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste
Management, and Climate Change, the
report is grounded in a comprehensive
benchmarking exercise conducted
in 2025. This exercise involved
collabora琀椀on with government en琀椀琀椀es,
industry stakeholders, and civil society
and highlights the strengths, gaps, and
opportunities within Mauritius’s TVET
system. Importantly, it provides a strategic
roadmap for integra琀椀ng green skills into
the education framework, supporting
the country’s sustainability and climate
commitments.
In his address, Minister Bhagwan
emphasized that Mauri琀椀us, as a Small
Island Developing State highly dependent
on imports, remains par琀椀cularly vulnerable
to climate change impacts, resource
scarcity and global economic 昀氀uctua琀椀ons.

economy — an approach that will bolster
resilience, reduce waste and reinforce
Mauri琀椀us’s commitments under the Paris
Agreement.

highlighted that greening the TVET
sector and integra琀椀ng it with educa琀椀on

environmental awareness and responsible
behaviours through school curricula and
expressed the Ministry’s commitment
to suppor琀椀ng ini琀椀a琀椀ves that promote

Mandic pointed out that the climate crisis is
a de昀椀ning global challenge, with Mauri琀椀us
being par琀椀cularly vulnerable despite its
minimal emissions contribu琀椀on. Through
the UK-Mauri琀椀us Strategic Partnership
Framework and the £12 million Access
to Climate Finance Programme, the UK
will continue supporting Mauritius in
advancing renewable energy, biodiversity
protection, and climate resilience
ini琀椀a琀椀ves.
He underscored the importance of
embedding green and circular economy
skills into TVET programs. Initiatives
such as developing specialized teaching
materials, training trainers, upskilling
graduates and creating certifications
are vital to enhancing employability and
fostering entrepreneurship within the
circular economy.
Minister Bhagwan also noted that climate
resilience extends beyond policies and
infrastructure; it requires education,
innovation and inclusivity to equip
young people and entrepreneurs with
the necessary skills to drive sustainable
change. The Green TVET Self-Assessment
Report will be instrumental in integra琀椀ng
“Encadrement des Familles” Programme
On Thursday 18 September 2025,
the Ministry of Gender Equality and
Family Welfare officially launched the
“Encadrement des Familles” Family
Support Programme at the Gokhoola
Community Wellness Centre. This
innova琀椀ve ini琀椀a琀椀ve aims to promote the
well-being and resilience of families across
Mauri琀椀us.

and therapeutic sessions, counselling
services and parental communication
support to empower families and enhance
their capacity to nurture and guide their
children effectively. Acknowledging
exis琀椀ng social and economic challenges,

commitment to protecting and
strengthening family life.
During the launch, attendees were
introduced to the Parental Strength Circle
programme and a training roadmap was
shared to equip trainers with the tools
needed to support families in their daily
lives.
